Product Description

Animal shaped aperture set for silhouette shooting, made to fit the Sharps type front sight with inserts that drop in from the top and are held in place with a spring clip in top of the sight.

These type sights are made by Pedersoli, MVA and others.
This is a special silhouette shaped aperture card for use in silhouette shooting. They fit the sharps type sights with the inserts that drop in from the top and are held in place with a spring clip on top. These sights are made by MVA, Pedersoli and others.

The diameter of the lower portion of the insert that actually fits inside the front sight is just under 1/2" in diameter. The upper half of the insert is heavier.

These 12 inserts are shaped to fit around the silhouette animal targets. They are not shaped exactly like the animals but are shaped to fit around them. Please note that the larger they are with the more clearance around the target they have, the less distinct the shape of the animal is in the shape of the aperture. So just because the hole in these apertures does not look much like a pig, does not mean it will not be a perfect fit around the animal.

If you are a silhouette shooter you will appreciate these to fine tune your sight picture. There are three different size inserts for each animal that will allow you to fine tune the amount of light you want around the target. I use the medium and the large sizes together to give me a better sight picture as my eyes have aged.

Most shooters either love these inserts or they hate them. A good general rule of thumb is that if  you can see well enough to tell which direction the turkey is facing then you can probably see well enough to take advantage of these inserts. If the turkey is a blurry speck to you then don't waste your money on them.

I created these inserts originally because I was using the crosshair outside of the round aperture on my front sight to verify my vertical hold on the targets and about 30% of the time I was getting in a  rush and forgetting to do so and just holding for center of mass of the target. On the targets like the ram the center of mass is right at the top of the back because the head sticks up so much, so I was missing too many over the back. These inserts raised my score nearly10% on average the first year I used them.

My most basic explanation for why they work is that we would never consider using an aperture shaped like a ram to shoot at a round target, so why would we want to use a round aperture to shoot at the ram.
