DUE TO NEW RESTRICTIONS BY US CUSTOMS, WE ARE NO LONGER ABLE TO SHIP THESE ADAPTERS OUTSIDE OF THE UNITED STATES.
An adapter to allow you to fire .22 rimfire ammunition in most .40 and .45 caliber single shot rifles.
Now you can shoot inexpensive 22 Long Rifle cartridges in most .40 or .45 caliber single shot rifles. Practice with your competition rifle and hone your shooting skills. A great way to join the ranks of .22 silhouette shooting.
This unit uses an ingenious shell holder adapter that holds the cartridge by the rim as it is inserted into the chamber of the liner. The shell holder contains a transfer firing pin that when struck by your rifle's firing pin, it then hits the rim of the .22 shell.
The .22 shell then loads and extracts much like your regular cartridge with just the little extra effort it takes to put the .22 shell into the cartridge carrier.
This adapter has a barrel that is 24 inches long, and is surrounded in 12 places with compressible foam sleeves that allow it to be firmly installed in bores of various diameters, but our standard version fits only into barrels that are of .40 and .45 caliber, and are chambered for a cartridge that uses the 45/70 case head size. That means it will fit the 40-65, 45-70 up to 45-120, and several others.
If you don't know if your cartridge uses the 45/70 case head then here are the dimensions. The 45-70 case is approximately .503" in diameter just forward of the rim, and has a maximum rim thickness of .070". If the rear of your chamber measures right at 1/2” in diameter inside and the chamber is 2.1” long or more, then this standard model will probably fit. If you have any doubts then just contact us with your questions.
Now for the question that everyone wants to know. HOW ACCURATE IS IT ANYWAY? Well, when I developed this .22 adapter I was looking for a way to practice my off hand shooting without burning up a lot of heavy kicking ammo, but as I worked on the design I began to realize it was shooting better than I was. I was seeing three shot groups at 100 yards that were under 1/2", and 10 shot groups that were just over an inch.
Since then has been the development of the 200 meter version of the smallbore silhouette game and I have won many matches with one of these adapters in my Sharps rifles. In general I tell everyone that they are as accurate as about any .22 rifle. So whether you are wanting to get into competition with your single shot rifle, go squirrel hunting with your Sharps, or just need to get some good cheap practice, then this is the way to do it.
Standard model fits the 40-65 Win., 40-90 SBN, 45-70, 45-90, 45-100, 45-110, and the 45-120 chambers, plus a few more.
It includes an instruction manual on how to install and adjust it for best accuracy in most single shot rifles.
We do make these on special order for some other chamber and bore diameters at a moderately higher price. Ask us for a quote if you have something in mind. .22 long rifle only, just in case you are curious. We will not build them for bores of larger than 50 caliber, and the can not be made for bores smaller than .38 caliber.

Having reached the age where walking around with a black and blue shoulder is no longer fun I thought this might be the answer to pain free practice. I found the cartridge carrier a work of art. If you have a digital depth meter it will save a lot of time installing the device. I found accuracy about as good as my old Model 75 target rifle. I would recommend keeping a couple of sets of the memory foam spacers on hand if you plan to use it a lot or go back and forth between a 45-70 and a 40-65. I have been using mine in a 40-65 on a #5 rolling block action. Being the sort that can't leave well enough alone I started thinking about having one made up to shoot 22 shorts or CB caps for indoor winter shooting. So if shooting 22 Rim fire in your favorite single shot meets your needs I'd say this unit is worth every penny.
